The Confrontation

Nabooru was suddenly at Ganondorf's side. She tried to touch his arm, but he pulled away from her. "This is not why I-! This isn't what we talked about!"

Not why she what, I wondered...

I was too busy admiring Ganondorf's face to pay attention to her. I caught every detail when he turned and sneered at her. "It is not what we negotiated, but this is the best decision." He turned back to me to explain, "Assemble the Gerudo into teams of three based on their skill. You will begin extensive training to prepare for war against the Hylians, Goron, and Zora, because once I have the Triforce, I conquer Hyrule."

Oh the ways I wanted to submit to him in that moment, to know all that power he commanded, were unspeakable. Then, Nabooru ruined my delicious fantasies with her hideous voice. "You were supposed to kick her out, banish her, not plan Hyrule's destruction!" I swear she was scolding him, and I thought it might have been the end of her life.

"I tire of your insolence!"

My heart skipped a beat, but not out of fear.

The thing was, Nabooru couldn't push her luck much if she wanted to keep him ignorant. If he suspected, anymore than he already did, that she was dishonest and completely manipulating him, then her hopes of running him out of the Gerudo would shatter. "This is a mistake. She is going to fail you, and she could never please you like I have."

"Leave my presence immediately," he snarled.

I flashed a smug grin at Nabooru because I won that battle.

She glared at him, until finally she stomped out of the little throne room. He didn't trust her, so he walked passed me to check the hallway and close the door. I turned right around to face him, but he was still holding the door knob.

When he looked back at me with a somber expression, he asked, "You accused her of being a traitor. Why?"

"It's obvious," I said bluntly. "She wants to overthrow you because she doesn't like the way you run things around here. She sympathizes with the Hylians, as if we terrorize them."

"Your claim was not made out of jealousy then?"

I felt like he was prodding me, trying to force me to reveal my deepest, darkest secrets. Based on the sword battle duel that made me general, I knew how aware he was of my feelings. I also recognized they were not mutual. "I have no reason to be jealous. I only mean to serve the one true Gerudo king, and that includes removing anyone who threatens him." The satisfied smirk he gave was reward enough for me. Whether he believed me about Nabooru or not, I wasn't sure. "I will bring you proof that she is not faithful to you."

"I trust that you will," he said smugly, again not hinting that he was suspicious or not. "Tomorrow morning we will meet here before traveling to Hyrule. And Dora, you are to keep silent, unless spoken to directly. That tongue of yours can act without a rational thought."

He said it with an amused grin, so I wasn't even mad. I just laughed.
