I was in the midst of sparring with my sword instructor in the training hall when I was rudely interrupted by a moblin.
"Ganondora," he called in that awful, gruff voice.
I was close to victory, and irritated by the distraction. "Can't you see I'm busy?" With that said, I made my instructor yield on her knees at the end of my blade.
"You better make time. The King of Evil has requested your presence, immediately."
My breath caught in my lungs as I pulled my companion to her feet. My heart hit my stomach like it was made of stone. "Is there a problem?" I asked, forcing impatience.
"Just come with me."
I guess I irritated him right back. Served him right. I was escorted to the throne room at the top of the central tower. I didn't know if I had somehow, unknowingly, failed Ganondorf, or what was about to happen. Once I reached the double doors, the moblin turned to me and said, "No weapons, especially for you."
"Seriously?" I scoffed, and placed a hand on my hip.
"No weapons!"
"Allow her entry with her weapons. She is dangerous, but not foolish enough to challenge me," came Ganondorf's deep, dark voice. I grinned with immense satisfaction as the guard acquiesced and allowed me passage.
The evil king stood in front of his throne with his feet apart, his arms crossed over his chest, and his evil eyes staring at me. Just the aura of arrogance and confidence billowing from him weakened my will. I lowered myself to one knee and bowed my head in respect. Moments later he commanded me to rise. I did, and he sauntered toward the balcony. I obediently followed a respectful distance behind, taking in a great view of his back side. When we stopped on the balcony, I gazed upon the picture perfect sunset in the west, and the moon in the east that whispered the world to sleep.
Ganondorf's silence wore on me and my chest tightened in panic. Why in Hyrule would he need to meet with me so suddenly? "Have you completed the preparations at the sage's temples?" he asked, his tone verging on anger like it always did. Even when his eyes were distant, fascinated by the landscape of Hyrule, he seemed annoyed.
I answered with confidence, hoping to bring him out of his trance. "As instructed. All of your minions are in place. The four ghost sisters haunt the forest. The phantom you created is the master of that temple. The Gorons are captured, imprisoned, and Volvagia grows stronger every day. The beast of Lake Hylia is awakened and the shadow of the temple housing Hyrule's dead is running rampant. Koume and Kotake are overseeing punishment of the traitors at the Temple of the Desert Goddess," I explained with pride.
Ganondorf chuckled, so I felt accomplished. "Excellent work. You are to be commended for your loyalty, unlike some."
"The Sorceress Sisters whisper that Nabooru might be a sage," I added in a quieter voice. He shifted his eyes to me, but his expression was conflicted. There was certainly a ton of hate, but I think I knew he felt regret. I know I did. He and I suffered because of that rat. "I take it that was not part of your plan?" I failed to hide a satisfied smirk.
His eyes filled with icy certainty. "That woman turned her back on her people, and her king," he declared in a booming voice, enraged. His eyes drifted from me, back to the desert in the distance.
I truthfully feared I may have ruined the splendid moment I shared with Ganondorf, moments that were becoming fewer and farther between. I never expected what was about to happen next. What about you?
