Mothula Unleashed - Ganondorf

"Promise you won't be mad at me," Dora blurted out as she rushed into the throne room in a panic.

I dreaded every word she would say after that introduction. It was only once before she used that on me, and I knew nothing good was about to come from her luscious lips. I could hardly ignore the way her chest was rising and falling against her leather armor as she tried to catch her breath.

"I sort of set a monster loose on Hyrule."

I shot her with the darkest glare I had ever given anyone. "Sort of?" I growled. "Speak plainly!" I ordered.

"It was an accident," she whined.

"And what ridiculous adventure were you on that caused you to unleash a monster on our kingdom?" I asked her, losing my patience. I hated having to pull information out of her. I understood her reluctance, because my temper could be terribly short, but it made me angrier that I had to keep asking. "Just tell me everything," I groaned.

"I was checking in on the Zora..."

...Who are all frozen right now... I felt the dull ache in the center of my forehead spread.

"...to make sure there was no change in their condition, when I realized there was a whole cavern behind King Zora. I climbed over him using the gate to explore the area. There was nothing there but huge platforms of ice. I started jumping from one to the next, and came across a cavern filled with more ice. I thought it was empty at first, but apparently your magic awakened some type of huge moth monster. It chased me right out of the cavern and I ran all the way back here!"

First of all, Dora never went anywhere without her horse. Second of all, "A giant moth?" I refused to believe she was worked up over a simple moth.

"Yes, a giant moth," she yelled at me, offended. "It shoots fire out of its mouth, it has one eye, huge green wings, and sprays little one-eyed spike balls from its tail."

"And instead of killing it, you led it away from Zora's Domain to wreak havoc on Hyrule?"

She fell dead silent, and her eyes filled with reason and understanding.

As always, I found an opportunity in her error. "I will destroy this monster, and some may even view me as a savior, a stronger king than they've ever known. You," I said, pressing my index finger against the jewel on her crown, "will remain here and wait for my return."

"You mean, I can't help you fight? But, we're a team! What's the point in training together if you won't let me join you?"

I grinned, amused and satisfied that she was disappointed. "It's what you deserve for running like a coward," I mocked. She glared at me with those fierce yellow eyes that I adored. I turned from her, and left her in the throne room, to face this big, bad monster.

Dora was known to exaggerate the size of certain insects, especially spiders. I have seen her shriek at a spider that dropped in front of her face from the rafters, narrowly surviving the fall by its web, and then slice it in half with deadly accuracy. She absolutely refused to work with any Skulltulas.

I was impressed that she had not lied about the monstrous size of the moth. Its wing span filled the sky and doubled its size. The underside of the wings was hypnotizing with designs in orange and yellow against a green background. I counted eight legs, but the two in front were more like arms with big pincers for hands. Just its body mass could topple the largest trees, destroy houses, and it was already targeting the ranch. The civilians living in homes surrounding the ranch ran out with dull swords and pitchforks to defend their property. In the matter of seconds it took for me to gallop from the drawbridge to the flying beast, two men were maimed and killed instantly. This was not going to be the easy battle I expected, but I was ready for a challenge.

I concentrated my energy so that it appeared against my palm as a dense purple orb, and it propelled from my hand to smack the bug's face. I gained its attention. Naturally, wanting to take out the stronger, dominant foe, it chased after me. I led it toward the desert where I knew I could use the wasteland to easily destroy it.

Except, I underestimated the moth.

My first goal was not to kill it. This monster was formidable. I could bend it to my will, tame it, control it, and use it to my advantage. I levitated from my saddle when I arrived in Gerudo Valley and came face to face with it. I held out my hand with the palm facing the moth's big red eye. Tendrils of magic lashed out from my fingers and snatched the monsters head. I simultaneously read the creature's simple mind and infested it with corruption, allowing it to taste my power. It began to whither and descend from the sky after a few minutes of a mental struggle. It was quite unexpected when the moth suddenly tore away from me, breaking our connection, and headed for the Gerudo Fortress. I dropped back to the ground and gave chase on foot. If this monster thought it could attack my home, it would die.

The Gerudo still residing in the fortress witnessed my struggle, and fired arrows to assist. The only benefit of this was that I learned the moth's body was covered with an impenetrable, flexible exoskeleton, that the arrows bounced against. That meant the only vulnerable areas remaining on the moth were its big eye, and the fleshy sack that acted as a tail. It was angered by the barrage of arrows, so it lifted its tail over its head and showered my fortress, and my people, with its green, one-eyed spawn. The orange spikes sticking out all around the eyeball allowed it to attach to its victim, and was difficult to shake off.

The Gerudo tending the gate to the wasteland managed to raise it in minimal time, while I kept the beast occupied. I primarily used my heavy sword to defend, and kept a steady offense using my sorcery powers. I ducked and dove to avoid the moth when it suddenly reared back and charged at me with full force. When it did this, and missed, I tested my theory and fired a beam of magic as wide as my hand into the moth's tail. The intense magic exploded on impact and the moth shrieked in pain. I had discovered its weak point, now I just needed to exploit it.

I held my open hand out and focused my energy again to create a deadly orb of magic. I concentrated all the darkness I possessed into this orb so that it would be the final blow, except I was suddenly knocked out of the air. I smashed into the stacked homes across from the fortress, and then collapsed to the ground.

I might have blacked out for a second. I landed on my front and my head ached terribly. The world spun when I opened my eyes, but I could make out the monster quickly approaching me on its six legs. It appeared that I had been knocked out of the air by a boulder it threw at me. I was so dazed and slow to stand, that it had me pinned to the ground between its pincers before I could gather my senses. They were not sharp, but they were strong, like the jaw of a fierce predator. The claws gripped me tighter and I felt my bones bending against the force. I fought back, but it was determined to end my life.
