Not that I needed it, but my confidence level reached a new high with my promotion to general. I was unstoppable.
Those that already disliked me grew to hate me out of jealousy. Those that gave me a chance came to respect me. You might be wondering, why does a group of thieves need a general? Well, because we were about to be more than that. Until that time, I was charged with planning the big raids, and, coincidentally, the most successful. Anywhere from the smallest towns on the outskirts of Hyrule, to Kakariko and Hyrule castle town.
There were those who challenged me for my title. A couple came close, and I respected them more. The rest failed miserably, and I was ashamed to call them kin. Had I been an enemy, their lives would have been taken by their reckless attempts to take mine.
Eventually, I was graced with the presence of the exalted Nabooru. Oh, that was a joy. This wasn't just a visit for her to come down from her figurative throne and express gratitude to the little people like she was some untouchable goddess. No, she wanted to have a word with me, which was fine because I needed to pick a bone with her.
"Congratulations on your promotion," she said to me, high and mighty. I took one look at her fake smile and I could see she was up to no good.
"I'm busy." I really was right in the middle of demonstrating to the youngsters the proper way to aim an arrow.
"You will take a break, because we have an important matter to discuss, now." She sounded like a spoiled baby trying to get her way.
With the arrow still poised to fire, I turned to Nabooru and said, "Then talk." She showed concern about talking in front of my students, with an arrow pointed at her head, so I said, "I have nothing to hide, unlike you." She wanted to question me, but wisely didn't, and moved on to business.
"I heard you have found it necessary to steal from children," she started.
I countered with, "The clothes you wear are made from fabric that my team stole, which could have been used to clothe Hylian children. We always steal from children."
She didn't say anything back to that. Instead, she went on and said, "And you killed a Hylian woman in your last raid."
"And?" I didn't see her point. "So, what?"
"I won't say this is the first time the Gerudo had to kill to take what we need, but never a woman before. I suggest you refrain from this in the future or you will be banished to the wasteland."
I was aghast. At first, I couldn't believe how unfair she was being, and then I was angry that she singled me out. "I don't care. Those Hylians deserve far worse for what we suffer because of them! We needed the medicine for a woman to deliver her baby and live, for another dying of infection from a wound. I will do what it takes to help my people survive!"
"These are not your people, Dora, and you are not in charge here. Stop taking advantage of the title Ganondorf has given you just to shut you up."
I think I'll leave it right here. This seems like a good cliff hanger, don't you think? Will Ganondorf suddenly walk in? Would he defend me, or Nabooru? Will I flip out and kill her? You'll have to wait until the next blog.
